William Taft (1857-1930). Military appointment document signed by President William Taft with a presidential eagle engraving at the top of the large vellum page and military engraving at the lower portion. 1p vellum, 15.5" x 19.5", Washington, DC, March 3, 1913. Countersigned by Henry Stimson as Secretary of War (the day before his last day in the office) with partially intact vibrant blue seal in the lower left corner, also included is the original mailing tube 16.5" x 1.5" x 1.5", stamped "War Department" with the name Archie S. Buyers typed on it. Has been stored rolled but flattens out nicely, few light isolated spots and signature is slightly faded, but overall fine.
The document, signed by President Taft, announces "The President of the United States of America" with "the advice and consent of Senate" appoints Archie Stanton Buyers to the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
