Al Capone
Miami, FL, n.d.
Striking Al Capone Portrait
Photograph
Vintage black-and-white press photograph of Al Capone, the infamous Chicago mob boss, shown standing in a relaxed pose holding a straw hat. Capone is dressed in a light-colored suit with a tie and pocket square, presenting a composed and confident public image. The photograph captures him full-length, with partial figures visible at either side, suggesting a candid or semi-staged group setting. The reverse bears a blue ink stamp reading: “PROPERTY OF KING FEATURES SYNDICATE, INC., 235 EAST 45TH STREET, NEW YORK CITY,” along with a pasted caption strip. Moderate toning and wear, else fine. Measures 8” x 10”.
Al Capone (1899–1947) was one of the most notorious figures of the Prohibition era, rising to prominence as the leader of the Chicago Outfit. Known for his involvement in bootlegging, gambling, and organized crime, Capone became a national figure both feared and sensationalized by the media. Photographs such as this one were widely circulated by press agencies like King Features Syndicate, helping to shape Capone’s public persona. Despite his criminal activities, Capone often cultivated an image of sophistication and approachability, frequently appearing well-dressed and composed in public settings.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
