A True Collector’s Piece of Bohemian Art Glass Heritage
For sale is a rare and exquisite antique Loetz Art Nouveau trinket box, crafted from the finest quality glass and adorned with gilt ormolu floral garland decorations. This exceptional round lidded box perfectly captures the organic curves, radiant colour, and delicate detailing that defined the Art Nouveau period.
The piece glows in a rich, golden-yellow hue, beautifully complemented by an ornate ormolu clasp and inner rim. Every detail reflects the refined craftsmanship and luxurious design that made Loetz one of Europe’s premier art glassmakers.
Although unsigned, this piece is confidently attributed to Loetz.
Most Loetz art glass pieces were not signed or marked, and identification often relies on their distinctive colour, form, and decorative style — all clearly evident in this beautiful example.
History & Provenance
Circa early 1900s, this piece originates from the height of Loetz’s creative success, when their innovative designs were celebrated across Europe and the United States.
Founded in 1840 by Johann Loetz in Klostermühle, Bohemia (now the Czech Republic), the company rose to prominence under the management of Suzanna Loetz and later her grandson Max Ritter von Spaun.
Inspired by nature and innovation, Loetz became synonymous with Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) glass, introducing iridescent finishes and organic shapes that rivaled the work of Tiffany and Gallé.
Loetz won first prize at the 1889 Paris Exhibition and the Grand Prize at the 1900 Paris World Exhibition, firmly establishing its reputation as one of the world’s most important glassmakers.
This particular trinket box was acquired from a respected fine art glass dealer in Lancashire, England, and remains a cherished survivor from a golden age of European artistry.
