Up for auction is a Smith and Wesson Model Russian model chambered in 44 Russian. This pistol is a holy grail for S&W collectors due to the rarity of these guns due to having been made for the imperial Russian military with a unique cartridge specifically made for them, the 44 Russian. The original third model S&W was designed much like the SAA having a big grip that rolled in the hand for easy recocking, the Russian model varies in this due to the Russians wanting a more target style revolver that moved less in the hand during recoil, hence the weird looking trigger guard and humped grip. This particular model features a 6.5 inch barrel with some pretty nice rifling. The grips have a few minor dings but no cracks, and the action not only functions, but times great and locks up solidly. A true time capsule of a gun and a must have for any serious S&W collector out there.
Smith & Wesson produced large numbers of the Model 3, in three distinct models, for the Russian Empire by special order. The first was the 1st Model Russian (the original order design), with the Russian Ordnance Inspector mandating a number of improvements to the design, resulting in the 2nd Model Russian, with a final revision to the Russian design being known as the 3rd Model Russian.
