This exquisite set of ten Murano art glass wine glasses is a stunning example of Italian craftsmanship, perfectly designed to elevate any table setting. There are three other shapes from the same service in stock- see last photo.

Each glass features a delicate, clear, gently flared bowl that rests upon a highly decorative and colorful stem. The stems are the true focal point, brilliantly constructed with a vibrant, ribbed peach-colored spherical node stacked above an elongated, similarly ribbed golden-yellow baluster. The elegant stems are grounded by classic, clear circular feet.

Historical Context: The Murano Stemware Tradition

For centuries, the island of Murano in the Venetian lagoon has been the undisputed epicenter of luxury glassmaking in Europe. While the island's foundries are famous for their extravagant chandeliers and sculptural art glass, their delicate, hand-blown stemware has gracefully adorned the tables of aristocrats and wealthy patrons since the Renaissance.

During the mid-to-late 20th century, Murano experienced a massive resurgence in international popularity as global exports boomed. Italian designers began playfully incorporating vibrant pops of color into traditional forms to appeal to modern entertaining aesthetics. The beautiful ribbed texture seen in the colorful nodes of these stems is classically known as rigadin, an optical effect achieved by blowing the hot glass into an open mold with ribbed sides before final shaping. Finding complete, undamaged sets of twelve matched, handcrafted Murano glasses from this era is a delightful rarity.
