A sculptural mid-century studio pottery vase designed by Robert Maxwell for Designs West of California. Made from high-fired stoneware, this wheel-thrown piece features a flared lip and richly textured lava glaze in earthy tones of olive green, rust, and brown. The matte surface and flowing glaze pattern give it an organic, almost volcanic presence. It works beautifully as a statement piece in modern, rustic, or Wabi-Sabi interiors.
Signed "Designs West 253" on the base, this vase is a strong example of California studio pottery from the 1960s and reflects Maxwell's distinctive design language during his time with Designs West.
