Description
This striking lidded jar is a signed work by Acoma Pueblo potter Corrine Louw, dated 2007. Hand-coiled and traditionally fired, the vessel showcases the distinctive horsehair pottery technique, where strands of horsehair are applied to the hot surface, leaving dramatic black carbon trails that contrast beautifully with the natural clay body.
The surface is further adorned with intricate geometric sgraffito designs, etched in bold patterns of triangles, spirals, and lightning motifs that echo Acoma Pueblo traditions. The lid is topped with a sculpted finial resembling an animal form, adding a sculptural and symbolic element.
8.5" diameter, 2.75" diameter opening at top, 7.5" high.
