18th C Baroque Style German G. von Gundlach Armorial Beer /Goblet/Kelchglas
Engraved later with ancestors name 'G. von Gundlach' with corresponding Armorial Crest, Germany, Hesse or Saxony region, Circa 1790
An exceptional 18th century example of early German or Dutch craftsmanship in this traditional Kelchglas form. A finely engraved later armorial to the body reveals the Gundlach family heraldry which date back to as early as 1304. The crest and shield of arms depict figures holding wheat (In Heraldry this is a symbol of plenty and wealth). Below the crest is an open barred helmet representing a Nobel affiliation, common amongst the Gundlach genealogy which has a deep history in military affiliation. The surname which was used amongst high nobles and even early Crusaders.
An interesting addition to note is this glass was likely engraved in the mid early to mid 19th century and used by the head of family to celebrate yearly prosperous hops harvest in both Germany and the United States which the Gundlach family has several historic brewery's opened during this time.
An extraordinary large example, the clear handblown goblet, the bowl of the goblet, finely engraved with the armorial crest of Gundlach family with a controlled bubble collar. Raised on a cut faceted stem with ancestors name 'G. von Gundlach' engraved at the base of the goblet.
