Description
A striking, hand-knotted vintage Persian Qashqai tribal rug from the Shiraz region of Southwest Iran. This carpet contains the highly desirable animal-filled field and bold geometric design language associated with nomadic weaving traditions. The composition centers on a vivid madder-red field anchored by a stepped medallion, surrounded by expressive tribal motifs including goats, birds, and stylized flora. These symbolic elements, traditionally woven from memory rather than formal pattern, give this rug a unique, narrative character. The deep charcoal corner spandrels provide strong visual contrast, enhancing the rug’s graphic presence. Woven in hand-spun wool on wool foundation, this rug exhibits the slightly irregular geometry and lively spontaneity prized by collectors of authentic tribal material. The tactile, medium pile and visible knot structure further confirm its genuine nomadic origin. The rugs woven by Nomadic artists, featuring figural and animal elements, consistently outperform more generic, geometric examples at auction. This rug is 40+ years old and is in excellent condition for its age. This rug was acquired from a Central Virginia estate. Cleaned and ready to be enjoyed.
