This rug is 40+ years old, has medium wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. This rug features a bold deep navy field animated with highly stylized animal and symbolic motifs, rendered in a distinctive village weaving style. Unlike conventional Hamadan rugs, this example showcases a free-form, folk-art composition—with abstracted horse and bird figures, geometric forms, and expressive drawing that gives the piece a strong visual personality. The saturated palette of navy, madder red, ivory, and soft sky blue creates excellent contrast and immediate presence in a room. Woven in Northwest Iran in the mid-20th century, this rug reflects the authentic spontaneity of village weaving traditions, where design is guided by memory and symbolism rather than strict workshop patterns.
