Offered here is an authentic Persian tribal saddle bag or “khorjin”, handwoven in wool by nomadic weavers of southwestern Iran, likely within the Shiraz tribal weaving region (Qashqai-Luri tradition). This piece retains its complete double-pouch structure, originally designed to be draped across the back of a donkey, horse, or camel, allowing one compartment to hang on each side of the animal while traveling between seasonal grazing grounds. The decorative pile-woven front panels display a striking geometric lattice of tribal motifs rendered in deep madder reds, rust, ivory, charcoal, and walnut brown, framed by multiple guard borders featuring repeating hooked and diamond elements typical of Shiraz-region tribal design vocabulary. The bag retains its flatwoven structural backing, interior pouch compartments, and braided wool closure cords with tassel terminals, emphasizing its traditional nomadic construction. Such bags served practical purposes for transporting food, tools, textiles, and household goods during seasonal migrations. The wool foundation and handspun pile reflect the durable weaving techniques used for utilitarian tribal objects, while the bold geometric design gives the piece strong decorative appeal for modern interiors as a wall hanging, bench textile, or table covering. An export label reading “Iranian Carpet Exporters Co. – Made in Iran” suggests the piece was produced for export during the late 20th century, while preserving the much older tribal design traditions of the region.
