Description
Vintage Caucasian Kazak rug was hand knotted in Persia (Iran) of 100% natural wool on a cotton foundation. The rug is 50+ years old and displays a striking three-medallion composition, with large stylized cross-shaped medallions aligned vertically across a vivid madder-red field. These medallions are accented with indigo blue, ivory, and brown tones, creating a strong visual contrast typical of traditional Caucasian tribal weaving. The central field is framed by blue corner spandrels and surrounded by multiple guard borders containing repeating geometric crosses, rosettes, and angular tribal motifs rendered in ivory, red, blue, and brown. The crisp geometry and high-contrast palette reflect the long-standing aesthetic traditions associated with the Kazak and Karabagh weaving districts of the South Caucasus. Hand-knotted in wool, this rug reflects the durable construction associated with tribal carpets designed for everyday use. Rugs in the Kazak tradition are especially admired for their bold graphic designs, saturated colors, and strong decorative presence, making them highly versatile in both traditional and contemporary interiors. This rug was acquired from a Richmond, Virginia estate. Clean and ready to be enjoyed.
