Description
Antique Persian Bidjar runner was hand knotted in Iran of 100% natural wool with a cotton foundation. This rug is 110 to 120+ years old, has medium wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. The dramatic crimson madder-red field is filled with a dense lattice of boteh (paisley) motifs, symbolizing fertility, blessing, and eternal continuity, and is anchored by three bold, serrated sky-blue and indigo medallions aligned along the central axis. This is a sacred Kurdish layout representing the passage from the earthly realm to the spiritual and celestial worlds. Each medallion is intricately ornamented with floral rosettes, palmettes, and diamond cores, drawn with remarkable clarity and symmetry. This rug is showing signs of abrash (fading) due to the use of antiquated vegetable dyes. This rug was acquired from an established rug merchant. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. Recent embargoes by the U.S. against Iranian goods should cause the value of these rugs to increase.
