
Description
PISTOL. Cal. 75 Smoothbore. NSN. Bbl. 8 5/16". Originally produced as a New Land Pattern flintlock, this example was later converted into a percussion configuration circa. the late 1790s to early 1800s. The lockplate is marked "TOWER" at the center, with a British crown marked to the rear of the hammer. Otherwise, this example is devoid of any proofs or identifying markings. 1-piece plain wood stock with brass furniture consisting of the pommel cap, trigger guard, sideplate, ramrod ferrule, and nose cap. Iron ramrod with integral swivel. CONDITION: metal has been cleaned, with iron components having faded to a gray patina, exhibiting scattered spots, patches, and areas of light to moderate pitting and age related discoloration. Brass exhibits a bright appearance, with scattered marks and impressions. Bore exhibits consistent oxidation and pitting. Proper manual mechanics, with hammer holding at the half-cocked position. Stock shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with typical chipping present around the lockplate, and a small epoxy repair present below the forward edge of the lockplate.
