Description
Cal. 64. NSN. Bbl. 7 5/16". Flintlock pistol of unknown original. Lockplate features engraved double line borders, with foliate motifs at the center and tail (also present on the hammer). Bbl. features 3 bands along the rear half. 1-piece plain wood stock features brass furniture consisting of an engraved sideplate, grotesque mask pommel cap, trigger guard terminating in a grotesque mask finial, as well as 2 ramrod ferrules. Iron blade front sight. Top jaw of the hammer is absent. CONDITION: iron components have largely acquired a dark oxidized appearance, with moderate oxidation present on the bbl. Brass fittings have acquired a pleasing mellow patina. Proper manual mechanics, with the hammer holding at half-cock. Stock shows scattered marks from handling and storage, with a crack present on the right side of the lockplate and on the left side along the bbl. channel. Stock exhibits a chip and poor fit at the pommel cap, with a large section of missing wood present along the right side of the bbl. channel.
