The letter, addressed to The Right Hon. Sir George Cove, Home Secretary, reads "You have a messenger named Walden, who was my Father's valet, and subsequently my servant in the South African War. I should rather like to have him as my messenger here, and I understand that he would be glad to come back to me. I do not know if you could spare him without inconvenience but, if so, I should be very much obliged to you", one page, browning and unevenness of toning, punch hole to left margin, 4to, Whitehall Place, 4 October 1917, mounted, framed and glazed; together with the typed answer from the Home Secretary, unsigned, consenting to Churchill's request (2)
