Description
a superb quality French gilt bronze, Auguste Moreau's “Allegory of Summer†with swivel base and marble plinth. The bronze is very well cast, depicting two children, a boy and a girl, each with an arm slung over the other's shoulder. The bronze is cast in multiple parts to allow for supremely detailed casting, with a very lifelike and dynamic look, down to the children's faces and curly hair, the folds of their clothes, etc. The base is designed in a way to allow the statue to swivel in place, which is a neat mechanism and a sign of a high end piece. The statue stands on a notch cornered low plinth in very attractive red and white mottled marble. The bronze is signed on the top side of the base, for Auguste Moreau. Numbered 566 D on the reverse, and marked PT inside base. The statue stands about 21 inches tall (on the marble base/stand). The base measures about 9 1/2 inches square.
