This handsome Chinese Export low chest or console cabinet is crafted from a light-colored wood, possibly elm or a similar fruitwood. The cabinet features a rectangular top over a body fitted with three aligned drawers, each adorned with a circular brass pull with a swing handle. Beneath the drawers are four cabinet doors, divided into two pairs. The central pair of doors is secured by a large, ornate circular brass escutcheon plate with traditional Oriental locking mechanisms, while the outer single doors are fitted with simpler circular brass pull plates. The joinery appears to be traditional with clean lines and a simple, elegant frame around the door and drawer panels. The overall style suggests a piece from the late 19th or early 20th century, reflecting classic Chinese furniture design suitable for a variety of interiors. The finish is natural with visible wood grain. There are some watermarks, scratches, and discoloration on the top and sides consistent with age and use.
