Very good condition.
An uncut set, with handsome margins.
This is the definitive collected edition of the history of the early discoveries of the Portuguese in Asia, with much material present from other sources that did not appear in the excessively rare original editions, published from 1552 on.
De Barros, referred to as "the Portuguese Livy" was the factor of the "Casa da Índia e da Mina" at a time when Lisbon was the European center for the trade with the East, and thus he was intimately acquainted with the events he describes. This complete work, with its continuation by Diego Couto, is quite rare in commerce.
In this edition, all the material that appeared in the excessively rare originals has been reprinted, corrected and enlarged, and it is additionally accompanied by a volume containing a life of Barros by the historian Manoel Severim de Faria, and a copious index of all the Decades, making it the best edition for the scholar.
