.50-caliber Spencer, serial number 26486, walnut stock marked "R S C O" on the butt parallel with the butt plate, marked on the top of the receiver "MODEL/1865" and "SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE/PAT'D MARCH 6. 1860/MANUF'D AT PROV. R.I./BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO.", with a saddle bar and ring on the left side.
Note: Center fire upper breech block is a modern replacement part.
