Description

An antique hand forged primitive iron hatchet mounted on a wooden handle, likely dating to the late 19th to early 20th century. Featuring an unusual sculptural forged head with pointed terminal and broad cutting edge, displaying strong rustic character and visible hand-worked craftsmanship. The heavily aged surface, irregular forged form, and weathered patina give the piece an appealing folk art and frontier aesthetic. A striking decorative example of early primitive ironwork.

Condition

Wear consistent with age and use including oxidation, surface losses, scratches, edge wear, and heavy handle deterioration. Handle with old wrapping and repairs.
