Description
A US militia Civil War service-connected non-commissioned officer's sword. This is a good quality example of the standard Peterson Pattern #11 from the famed Barnyak collection. This example exhibits a crisply detailed jilt with reeded bone grips (no chips) 27.5 inch d.e. blade with no obvious maker's markings near the ricasso. Gray original surface with raised scattered surface pitting from stowage that has been treated. The Peterson 11 Pattern refers to a specific classification of 19th-century American militia and NCO swords detailed in Harold L. Peterson's authoritative reference book, The American Sword 1775-1945. These antebellum-era swords were heavily utilized by state militias and saw widespread service during the American Civil War. Overall condition is good to very good. Bidders are welcome to preview items in person during our normal operating hours Tuesday through Saturday 11am-6pm.
