Description
This appears to be a vintage brass horn for nautical or hunting use. The consigner states they believe this to be c. American Civil War. It is designed to produce a loud sound. This one appears to produce two different tones. Likely it was used to alert other ships in the fog or to call hunting dogs. Our research also indicates there is a possibility these were used by soldiers in the Civil War as well. This horn features a flared bell and a straight, slender body with a small valve and mouthpiece. Similar examples were also used as German gas signal alarm horns during WWI.
