Description

A suspected pre-American Civil War Era brass stirrup likely used by Confederate cavalry. Confederate cavalry did use brass stirrups though these were not issued to enlisted men who usually had leather and wooden or cast-iron stirrups due to limited manufacturing capabilities during the war effort. These privately purchased militia styles—were highly sought after and widely used by both enlisted troopers and officers alike. This example is designed to accommodate a 1.5-inch strap. Very good overall condition. Bidders are welcome to preview items in person during our normal operating hours Tuesday through Saturday 11am-6pm.
