This jar is the supreme masterpiece of Joseon Dynasty white porcelain dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries, namely the most symbolic classic artifact of Joseon period, the Moon Jar. It is named after its plump round shape resembling a full moon. It presents a perfect spherical outline with short straight mouth and low ring foot, entirely covered with milky warm white glaze. It has solid and fine body, thick glossy glaze and natural crackles, fully embodying the supreme aesthetic of plainness, mildness and grandeur of Joseon white porcelain. A ring line in the middle of the belly is the joint trace of upper and lower clay bodies, which is the typical craft feature of Joseon Moon Jar. Its concise lines match well with the rounded shape, showing profound beauty in minimalism. Magnificent in shape, pure in glaze color and exquisite in workmanship, this vessel embodies the highest standard of Joseon white porcelain craftsmanship.
