The interior surface is decorated with a vibrant Chinoiserie scene in a palette reminiscent of Tobacco Leaf or Imari styles. The central motif depicts a man and a woman in Asian-inspired dress seated at a low table with tea service. This scene is framed by an elaborate flowering tree with oversized iron-red peonies, a long-tailed bird perched on a branch, and various floral sprays in cobalt blue, pink, and green. The scalloped edges of both the plate and the foot are finished with hand-applied gilding. The underside of the base contains both impressed and hand-painted marks. An impressed mark shows the name COPELAND in a curved arc.
