Comes with a letter from the Premier's office Perth organising its presentation. It is likely Hopkins was a crew member of the ship 'Ophir' who assisted in saving many lives after the earthquake

The letter from the Premier's office is enlightening in a few ways. Firstly, although the letter is dated 5th August, 1912 the Premier's Office was still using pre-printed stationery dated 189_. Secondly, Hopkins although a hero was such a knockabout character that we reuse the back of the letter for a shopping list including rhubarb, parsnips, carrots, lettuce & beans
