Cameroon, . Caryatid figure of a seated monkey figure holding an ovoid form, possibly a coconut. The animated head is carved with a projecting snout, wide mouth with boldly defined teeth, bulging eyes, and pointed concave ears. Arms bend to rest on the knees, in front of long rounded back incised with a linear spine and a spider motif at the rear of monkey’s seat. The form is slender and cylindrical, rising from an integral ring base. “Bamoun, Cameroun No. 86” written on the underside of the base.. 19”H (48.3cm).
