Of intricately carved and formidable design with two sets of large, curvilinear horns on top and a set of horns attached at the front; large, flaring bovine ears border the face with large, pierced eyes and mouth revealing teeth. The pierced eyes and open mouth revealing teeth contribute to the mask's aggressive, commanding presence. Mgbedike — meaning "the brave man" or "the strong man" — masks appear in Igbo masquerade contexts associated with male power, warrior traditions, and the enforcement of social order.. 25”H (63.5cm).
