Chinese Child?s Elephant-Form Hat

Description

China, late Qing dynasty to early Republic period. A child's embroidered textile hat in the form of an elephant, constructed with pink and magenta silk panels and a pale yellow checked cotton lining. The front is applied with a projecting elephant trunk, embroidered eyes, tusk-like white fabric elements, blue thread mane, purple applique details, and large side ears with embroidered decoration.
