Description
Pendant – 1 3/4 in (4.4 cm) tall x ¾ in (1.9 cm) diameter.
The pendant is often referred to as a cong-form bead or le zi. Traditionally, a "cong" is a ritual artifact with a square exterior and a circular interior, and these miniature versions are worn as protective talisman for protection, good fortune, and moral integrity. Historically, these were sometimes called "safety blessings" and were believed to ward off negative energy.
I believe the characters carved into the central panel of the pendant are ???? (ch? rù píng ?n). This is a very common Chinese blessing that translates to:
?? "Safety wherever you go"
?? "May peace and safety follow you wherever you may go"
?? "Safe travels in and out"
The necklace includes small white hardstone accent beads at the base of the pendant where the cord ends.
The necklace fastens with two small stone beads that pass through a corded loop.
