This is a 20th century set, but the look is timeless. The bottles are all very finely and skillfully decorated by hand using a reverse-painting method, meaning the decoration is actually done to the interiors of the bottles rather than the more accessible exteriors. The bottles depict landscape scenes, ship scenes, a town square or market, large buildings and pagodas, all populated with a varied and lively figures in traditional garb. The quality of the painting is incredible, very detailed and well done despite the small size., and the scenes are continuous, not just done on one side of each bottle. The bottles are in a nice storage case with a yellow silk lined interior and pretty patterned brocade exterior. The case is labeled inside the lid, “Fine Works of Inside-Painting” as well as in Chinese, “Interior Painting Boutique, A Folk Specialty, and Chinese Interior Painting. This set is in excellent condition, likely never displayed outside their fitted case. The paint, done to the interior, has no wear or losses. The glass has no chips, no cracks, and no repairs. The case has some minor wear to the fabric of the exterior, but nothing significant. Each snuff bottle stands about 3inches tall. The box measures about 12 by 3 1/2 by 1 1/2 inches, LxWxH.
