Description
This lot features a significant pairing of American military equestrian history: a Model 1892 U.S. Cavalry curb bit and a matching pair of iron stirrups. The bit is a textbook example from the Rock Island Arsenal, clearly stamped "R.I.A." on the shank, and retains its distinctive brass "US" bosses. Accompanying the bit is a pair of military-pattern iron stirrups, which also bear faint "US" markings at their bases. Both the bit and stirrups are forged from iron/steel and represent the standard issue for cavalry units from the late Indian Wars through the early 20th century. The set shows consistent, heavy oxidation and a dark "barn find" patina throughout, with some pitting on the stirrup treads and shanks, though all structural elements remain solid. Bit: H 9", W 6", D 2.75"; Stirrups (each): H 6", W 5.5", D 2". Please see photos.
