Description
This authentic primitive pack saddle is a remarkable piece of folk-art utility, likely originating from the 19th or early 20th century for use on a donkey or small mule. Hand-carved from solid hardwood and bound with traditional rawhide or heavy cordage, it features the classic X-frame design with a prominent, sculptural pommel and cantle. The underside reveals weathered rawhide remnants, showcasing the rugged history of this working-class equestrian gear. It is in good antique condition, showing significant age-related wear including surface cracking, heavy patination, and minor wood loss consistent with decades of use and storage. H 11", W 13", D 18". Please see photos for condition.
