Description
An authentic and heavy Mid-20th Century Institutional Wool Blanket, this piece is a prime example of high-utility textiles manufactured for barracks or hospital use. The robust, tight-knit construction is characteristic of the durable, thick-gauge wool woven to provide maximum warmth and longevity. The heathered gray-brown field is accented by distinct bands of peach/tan and a vibrant blue. It is factory-loomed to a generous size, a feature that generally dates it to the post-WWII era when wider industrial looms were common. The blanket includes two noticeable, crudely-applied square patches of a contrasting off-white material, a charming and authentic testament to its history of hard use and necessary field repair. The blanket shows good overall structural integrity; there is moderate surface wear and expected pilling, but no significant deterioration or moth damage visible from the photographs. The colors are bright and well-retained, consistent with the use of mid-century synthetic dyes. H 80", W 87", D 0.5". From the Western display in Donley's Wild West Town.
