WREN CHRISTOPHER: (1632-1723) English architect, astronomer, mathematician and physicist, a founder of the Royal Society, serving as its president 1680-82. D.S., Chr. Wren, in the form of an endorsement, two pages, 4to, n.p., 7th May 1716. The recto of the document bears printed text stating, in part, ´Order is taken this First Day of July 1713, by Vertue of an Act now passed in Parliament, (Entituled, An Act for garnting to Her Majesty Duties upon Malt, Mum, Cyder and Perry....and for making forth Duplicates of Lottery Tickets, lost, burnt or destroy´d......and to punish the Counterfeiting or Forging of Lottery Orders.....) That you deliver and pay of such Her Majesty´s Treasure as remains in your Charge, arising by the said Act, unto the Rt. Hon. John Howe Esq; or his Assigns, the Sum of Five hundred Pounds, in Repayment of the like Sum by him lent upon Credit of the said Act....´ To the verso appears an autograph endorsement signed by Howe transferring his title and interest in the order to George Middleton, dated 23rd December 1713, beneath which appears a further endorsement signed by Middleton in which he transfers ´all my Right Title and Interest in the within mentioned Order to Christopher Wren Esq.´, dated 18th January 1713/4, below which Wren acknowledges receipt of the funds, ´Recd. 7th May 1716 in full, Chr.
