MITCHELL MARGARET: (1900-1949) American novelist and journalist whose sole novel published during her lifetime was Gone with the Wind (1936). Pulitzer Prize for Fiction winner, 1937. T.L.S., Margaret Mitchell Marsh, one page, slim 4to, Atlanta, Georgia, 13th August 1937, to the editor of Who´s Who in London. Mitchell states that she has received the information concerning her which is to be published in the upcoming edition of Who´s Who, explaining that it is all correct, with the exception of her telephone number, and further remarking ´I notice that you have me listed under the name "Marsh", which is correct as that is my married name. However, my only novel, "Gone With the Wind", was published under my maiden name, "Margaret Mitchell", and it is by the name of "Margaret Mitchell" that I am known in public life. I do not know what your practice is in such matters - - whether you list people by the names by which they are known in public life or the names which they bear in private life, so, I am merely calling this matter to your attention and leaving it to your discretion´. A letter of good content for its reference to Gone With the Wind. VG
