LEY ROBERT: (1890-1945) German Nazi politician, head of the German Labour Front 1933-45. A.L.S., Dr. R. Ley, one page, 4to, Wiesdorf, 24th October 1927, to the official of the tax office in Opladen, in German. Ley writes to submit ´a formal protest against your reminder note of 19th October 1927´ and continues to explain ´I was promised in a telephone conversation with Councillor Muller at the end of August that the fine was to be cancelled, since I had not received a form of declaration for the capital levy because I had been absent´, further adding ´After receiving the duplicate I immediately filled it in. I explained this again in writing to the Tax Office´. To the verso of the letter appears an autograph draft of a reply to Ley by an official at the Tax Office, dated 27th October, in part, ´In consideration of the fact that the promised tax declaration actually arrived here on 24th September, I cancel hereby the fine ordered on 4th August. It must however be stated that the.....letter of 24th October missed the deadline for protests and could therefore have been rejected immediately as inadmissible and that you cannot expect such consideration in the future´. With a number of indelible pencil dockets and official stamps in the margins. Very slightly irregularly trimmed to the left edge, and with some very light, minor creasing, otherwise VG
