Description
A Protocol for Packet Network Intercommunication
Vinton Cerf and Robert E. Kahn, 1974
Details
THE INTERNET – CERF, Vinton (b.1943) and KAHN, Robert (b.1938). “A Protocol for Packet Network Intercommunication.” In: IEEE Transactions on Communications. May, 1974. Vol.Com-22, No.5. pp.637-48.
The foundation of the internet: first edition of Cerf and Kahn’s breakthrough Protocol, a fine copy of the journal issue. In the early 1970s ARPAnet and other similar computer networks were hampered by the fact that each operated according to different hardware and software protocols, thus making it impossible for them to communicate with one another. This problem was solved by Cerf and Kahn's invention of the TCP/IP cross-networked protocol allowing the creation of an international network of computer networks; i.e. the Internet, a word coined in about 1973 as an abbreviation for "internetworking of networks." Hook and Norman, Origins of Cyberspace, 528. Gedeon pp.508-09.
Quarto (273 x 205mm). Original wrappers. Custom chemise and quarter morocco box.
Provenance
