Description
This Victorian-era opalescent glass pitcher is featured in the Shingle pattern, also referred to as the Fish Scale or Imbricated pattern. The vessel is constructed of mold-blown glass with a milky white opalescence that transitions to a translucent blue at the pattern depths and base. The body is bulbous with a repeating overlapping scale motif. It features a crimped, scalloped rim and an applied translucent blue reeded handle, commonly known as a celery handle. The base is smooth and concave with no visible pontil scar. No factory maker marks are present on the piece. This item is attributed to the Northwood Glass Company, circa late 19th century. A small white rectangular sticker with the handwritten number 274 is located on the base.
