Offered are a set of three Nichols & Stone Hitchcock-style ebonized stenciled chairs. Nichols & Stone was a furniture manufacturer known for its high-quality, solid wood furniture, particularly its Windsor chairs and rocking chairs. The company was founded in 1857 and was considered the oldest furniture-building company in the United States before it was purchased by L. & J.G. Stickley in 2008. 
The style of the chair, with its black lacquer finish and gold stenciling, is a variation on Hitchcock chairs. The stenciling on the back features a fruit bowl design. The company's shield logo, inspired by the House of Windsor's coat of arms, is stenciled on the seat. The makers mark is impressed on the underside of the chairs. As with most pieces of preowned furniture these chairs exhibit marks of use and wear commensurate with their age.
