Description
Most likely hand carved in the 1870's-1880's this generous throne armchair bears its original needlepoint and petit point upholstery and horse hair seat. Hovering between the Louis XV style and Rococo Revival, it is perfect for the French country or European farmhouse decorator.
The carved frame has the original finish and you can feel the soft patina that only time can produce.
The needlepoint has petit point details and illustrates a garden scene framed by scrolling foliate motifs in warm terracotta, rose, gold, and muted olive tones.
The nail head trim is original as well.
This chair has not been over-restored, allowing its age, texture, and character to remain intact. A rare opportunity to acquire an authentic 19th-century French fauteuil with its original upholstery still present.
Please see condition notes and all photos. The last photo shows the horsehair underneath.
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: The needle point has some thread loss and a small unraveled spot shown which is not uncommon for a piece this age. Some of the nail head trim is missing and there are some loose nails.
The frame is sturdy and has its original finish.
The seat springs at some point ( not by us ) have been reinforced by metal stabilizers. We assume this was done in lieu of removing the needle point and horse hair in order to redo the springs.
Please see all photos.

Textile, Walnut
