Columbia, 1964. Samantha Eggar's annotated working script for the film Psyche 59, together with her French paperback edition of the film's source novel Psyche 58 by Fran?oise de Ligneris (Paris: Grasset, 1958). The script's title page is signed "SAM," likely by Eggar, and her personalized bookplate is affixed to the inner cover. Several 8 x 10 photographs of Eggar in the film are tucked inside. Tucked inside the book is a yellowed clipping from the Oldham Evening Chronicle dated 12 Dec. 1963 with the headline "A bright future for Samantha Eggar," referencing her recent appearance in the film. A candid photo from the film's set is affixed to the script's cover.
Eggar had one of her first leading roles in the film, in which Patricia Neal plays a woman who has gone blind after a nervous breakdown. Eggar plays her femme fatale younger sister who comes for a visit, and tries to steal Neal's husband. Neal and Eggar became close during the film's production, and remained friends throughout Neal's life.
