Description
A group of four original screenplays and teleplays from the productions of several of Samantha Eggar's horror and thriller projects.
- A screenplay for A Name For Evil (Cinerama Releasing Corporation, 1973) by Bernard Girard, under an early title, "The Grove," which has been crossed out and re-titled "WHY" in pencil. In wrappers bound with string, signed by Eggar in black felt-tip pen ink on the top of the front cover, dated 2nd July, 1970. The script is marked and annotated by Eggar, and she's drawn pictures and doodles on the back of several pages. Eggar starred in the psychadelic haunted house film with Robert Culp.
- A screenplay for The Dead Are Alive (Titanus, 1972) by Lucio Battistrada and Armando Crispino, under an early title, "The Etruscan" ("The Etruscan Kills Again" is typed on the title page, but "Kills Again" has been crossed out, likely by Eggar). Bound in a faux-leather hardcover, on which Eggar has painted an "S" on the front (possibly with nail polish). On the end sheet, Eggar has taped a photograph of her and Kris Kristoffersen, who she was probably dating at the time. Members of the cast and crew have signed the title page in pen. Eggar has heavily annotated the script, and doodled drawings on the back of several pages. On the back endsheet, Eggar has written translations of various Italian words and phrases (the film was an Italian production), including cena ("dinner'), che cazzo far ("what are you doing?"), stronzo ("shit"), burgandana ("liar"), li mortacci tua ("death"), non-mi-frega-un-gazzo ("I don't give a fuck"), and non-mi-rompe-le-palle ("don't break my balls"). In the film, a photographer on an archaeological expedition digging up Etruscan ruins encounters the undead.
- A teleplay for the season eight premiere of Tales of the Unexpected (ITV, 1979-88) titled "People Don't Do Such Things" by Ross Thomas. The script is unbound and housed in a manila envelope. It is printed on multi-colored revision pages and highlighted with a few marks by Eggar. The script's cover indicates that it's the fifth revision, dated 5/6/82. Includes a letter from casting director Joe Scully inviting Eggar to participate, production schedules, call sheets, and other production ephemera. Eggar co-starred with Arthur Hill and Don Johnson on the episode, about a writer who develops a fraught relationship with a disturbing couple.
- A teleplay for Double Indemnity (ABC, 1973) by Steven Bochco. The script is bound with brads and printed on pink and blue revision pages. It is highlighted and lightly annotated by Eggar. A shooting schedule dated August 17, 1973 is bound with the script, and two publicity stills featuring Eggar as the femme fatale Phyllis Dietrichson are tucked inside.
- An original screenplay for The Phantom (Paramount Pictures, 1996) by Jeffrey Boam, signed in blue pen ink on the cover by director Simon Wincer, who inscribes: "Samantha, / Many thanks / for a wonderful performance / fond love / Simon Wincer." The script is printed on pink and white pages. Also includes production ephemera originally tucked inside: a signed handwritten note to Eggar from Paramount executives Jonathan Dolgen, Sherry Lansing, John Goldwyn, Thomas Levine, and David Solomon, a staff and crew list, a shooting schedule, a Polaroid of Eggar in costume as "Lily Palmer," a fabric swath (possibly from her costume), and a map of Paramount Studios.
- A screenplay for The Hill (MGM, 1965) by Ray Rigby, likely from pre-production. The title page says "Working Title," and Eggar did not appear in the finished film.
- Two binders containing script excerpts from the audio drama Ender's Game Alive by Orson Scott Card (Skyboat Media, 2013), highlighted by Samantha Eggar, who has also placed post-it notes to mark her scenes. A Walt Disney Studios sticker and Eggar's name (the latter heavily faded) is affixed to the inner-cover of one binder.
