A rare Electronic Press Kit from Universal Pictures, created to promote one of the most iconic gangster films of all time, Brian de Palma's Scarface (Universal, 1983). The kit is housed in a three-ring binder with custom branding on the covers and spine.
The star of the kit is the included U-Matic videotape, which contains a compilation of material promoting the movie, including a teaser trailer and a number of news segments. Also included are paper summaries and transcripts of each segment, as well as an "About the Movie" section featuring a biography of the star of the film, Al Pacino. This piece comes from the collection of journalist Larry Grobel, who conducted the interviews with Pacino featured on the tape.
Grobel on this piece: "When Universal asked Pacino to participate in the electronic press kit for Scarface, he said he didn?t feel comfortable talking on camera about it with someone he didn?t know. He asked me if I would do it. So, I flew to New York, where Universal put me up at the Carlyle Hotel, and gave me free rein to talk to Al. Once we finished talking for a few hours, the tape was edited into eight "features" that that ran between one to three minutes, and then a 7 ? minute Featurette. The Features dealt with Paul Muni and Scarface, Creating a Character, Preparing for a Role, Working with the Other Actors, Other Films and Roles, Influences?Brando and Dean, On Acting, and An Actor, Not a Movie Star. The Featurette combined these eight segments.
"This is an extremely rare Scarface electronic press kit that was never issued for sale. One of the most unique and interesting Scarface related items. These pages include a treasure trove of information that include lines from the movie, information on where scenes were shot, interviews with Al Pacino, and much more!"
