This 19th-century hand-colored steel plate engraving, titled Hastings, was originally painted by Joseph Mallord William Turner and expertly engraved by Robert William Wallis in 1851. The dynamic composition depicts a turbulent seascape with fishermen in rowboats, showcasing the town of Hastings nestled beneath a towering west cliff and the ruins of Hastings Castle perched on the far left. Housed in a classic wood frame with a cream-colored mat, this dramatic maritime scene makes a striking addition to a traditional study or coastal-themed collection. Measuring approximately 28 1/2" H x 33 1/2" W, Good condition with a light amount of discoloration consistent with its age.
