Description
Remarkable assemblage of architectural history preserves the physical legacy of the Huggins House, a significant structure once located near the Lynnhaven River in Princess Anne, Virginia, dating to prior to 1692. Originally salvaged by J.E. Causey, this collection offers a rare, tangible window into 17th-century construction methods, prominently featuring original brick components that provide unique insight into early colonial craftsmanship. Remarkably, one brick section retains original inclusions of human hair and hog bristles—traditional binding agents used by early masons—alongside evidence of authentic oyster shell mortar. The collection is meticulously presented within a wood shadow box measuring approximately 15 1/8" H x 21 1/8" W x 4" D, which also houses period-appropriate wooden pegs, lightning rod holders, and other structural remnants. Accompanied by a separate loose brick and a framed, detailed statement regarding the house’s history included. Shows age-appropriate state and the preservation efforts evident with wear and loss throughout.
