Description
Substantial Southern stoneware crock is a compelling example of historic regional folk pottery, traditionally finished in a classic alkaline glaze and topped with a rustic fitted wooden lid. The vessel features a highly collectible, asymmetrical handle configuration consisting of one hand-applied strap handle and one robust lug handle, showcasing the rugged utilitarian design typical of 19th-century food preservation. While the original glaze retains its historic appeal, it has been historically touched up with brown paint over the glaze in some areas, the jar measures approximately 17 in. H x 10 in. in diameter. It is presented in an honestly weathered, structurally distressed condition, exhibiting various holes, surface abrasions, and chips throughout, alongside the aforementioned paint touch-ups.
