Description
Compelling pairing of historic Southern utilitarian pottery features two distinct forms finished in traditional, regional alkaline glazes, celebrated by collectors for their earthy, glass-like runs and deep-rooted folk heritage. The first vessel is an elegant pitcher showcasing a defined lip, a gracefully curving shoulder, and a sturdy applied handle blanketed in a rich, deep alkaline glaze. The second is a substantial 5-gallon crock featuring a highly desirable asymmetrical dual-handle configuration—composed of one robust lug handle and one applied strap handle. The larger 5-gallon jar measures approximately 17 1/2 in. H x 9 in. in diameter. Reflecting their honest, hard-working domestic pasts, both vessels are presented in time-worn antique condition; the smaller pitcher exhibits a crack across the body along with chips to the lip, while the larger storage jar displays a crack as well as various chips and abrasions throughout.
