Description
This vintage American string patchwork quilt is constructed from numerous multicolored cotton and cotton-blend fabric strips pieced diagonally onto white or off-white foundation triangles. These triangles are joined to form square blocks, creating a rhythmic, secondary diagonal pattern across the entire quilt top. The fabric selection includes a wide variety of mid-20th-century prints such as small-scale florals, ginghams, polka dots, checks, and solids, many of which are characteristic of the feed sack cloth used during this period. The quilt features dense hand-quilting in a diagonal grid pattern across the entire surface. The backing and the narrow, hand-finished binding are composed of a solid lavender-colored cotton fabric. No maker marks, labels, or signatures are visible on the piece.
